How to Get the Most From Your Editor (and Your Subscription)

At Infinite Creatives, our goal isn't just to edit videos — it's to become an extension of your team.

The more we understand your brand, your audience, and the way you like to work, the better we can deliver edits that feel like they've been created in-house.

Whether you've just joined us or you've been working with us for months, these tips will help you get the most value from your subscription and create a smoother, faster editing workflow.

Think of Us as Your Creative Partner

The best client relationships are collaborative. We're not just here to cut clips together — we're here to help bring your ideas to life.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, bounce ideas around, or let us know if you're unsure about something. If there's a better way to structure a video, improve pacing, or create a stronger viewer experience, we're always happy to make suggestions.

The more we work together, the better we'll understand your style and preferences.

Provide Context, Not Just Footage

The footage tells us what happened. The context tells us why it matters. Whenever you submit a project, try to tell us:

  • Who the audience is.
  • What the goal of the video is.
  • What action you want viewers to take.
  • Any important brand guidelines.
  • The overall tone you're aiming for.

Even a few extra sentences can make a big difference to the first draft.

Use the Project Brief

Our project brief is designed to help you provide everything we need before editing begins. The more information you include, the closer the first draft is likely to be to your vision.

You don't need to fill out every field for every project — but the more relevant details you provide, the better. See our guide on creating the best project brief for a full breakdown.

Share Reference Videos

If there's one thing that consistently improves first drafts, it's reference videos. These don't have to be videos you've made yourself. In fact, we encourage you to share inspiration from anywhere, including:

  • YouTube
  • Instagram
  • TikTok
  • Commercials
  • Podcasts
  • Brand videos
  • Motion graphics examples

You can send as many references as you'd like. One video might have the perfect pacing, another might have subtitles you love, while another has the exact style of transitions you're looking for.

We'll use them to understand your creative direction — not to copy them shot for shot.

Give Us Creative Freedom When You Can

Some projects require us to follow a script exactly. Others work best when we're given room to make creative decisions. Both approaches are completely fine.

If you're happy for us to take the lead on things like pacing, music, graphics, transitions, and storytelling, let us know. We'll use our experience to craft an edit that fits your goals while still reflecting your brand.

You can decide how much creative direction you'd like to provide on a project-by-project basis.

Build a Consistent Workflow

The more consistent your submissions become, the more efficiently we can work. For example:

  • Use similar folder structures.
  • Name files clearly.
  • Keep branding assets in one place.
  • Submit projects using the same process each time.

A consistent workflow helps us spend less time organising files and more time editing.

Keep Brand Assets Up to Date

If you have:

  • Logos
  • Fonts
  • Brand colours
  • Intro/outro animations
  • Lower thirds
  • Sound effects
  • Music libraries

...keeping these in a shared folder means we can access the latest versions whenever we need them. This also helps maintain consistency across all of your videos.

Batch Your Content

If you regularly create content, consider filming multiple videos in one session. For example:

  • Record a month's worth of short-form content in one day.
  • Film several YouTube videos at once.
  • Capture extra B-roll while you're already filming.

Batching your content allows us to maintain consistency and helps you get more value from your subscription.

Consolidate Your Feedback

When reviewing drafts, try to watch the entire video before sending revisions. Instead of sending multiple small messages throughout the day, leave all of your comments together in Frame.io. This helps us:

  • Stay organised.
  • Avoid missing feedback.
  • Complete revisions more efficiently.

One organised revision round is almost always faster than several smaller ones. See our guide on submitting detailed feedback for more.

Trust the Process

Your first draft isn't expected to be the finished product. The revision process is where we fine-tune the edit based on your feedback.

Don't be afraid to tell us what you like as well as what you'd change. Knowing what's working is just as valuable as knowing what isn't. Our goal is to improve with every project so that future edits require fewer revisions.

Communicate Changes Early

If priorities change after submitting a project, let us know as soon as possible. For example:

  • The deadline has changed.
  • The video now needs to be shorter.
  • A different audience is being targeted.
  • New branding has been introduced.
  • Additional footage has become available.

The earlier we know, the easier it is to adapt.

Ask Questions

We're always happy to explain why we've made certain editing decisions or suggest ideas to improve your content. Whether you're unsure about pacing, storytelling, subtitles, music, or platform-specific editing styles, don't hesitate to ask.

The more we collaborate, the better the results become.

Build a Long-Term Editing Style

One of the biggest advantages of working with the same editor over time is consistency. As we complete more projects together, we naturally learn:

  • Your preferred pacing.
  • The graphics you like.
  • How you structure videos.
  • Your favourite music styles.
  • Your brand voice.
  • Your audience's expectations.

Over time, this means less explaining, fewer revisions, and faster turnaround times.

Remember: Better Footage Creates Better Edits

Great editing starts before the footage reaches us. Good lighting, clear audio, organised files, and thoughtful planning all contribute to a stronger final result.

If you haven't already, we recommend reading our guide on How to Film Better Content (and Get Better Edits) for tips on capturing footage that's easier to work with.
